4 Techniques For Cavity Prevention

Many people assume that their teeth do not have cavities if they do not hurt or cannot see the damage. However, tooth decay often does not hurt and can be hidden in places you cannot see. Here are some tips that everyone should know about cavity prevention so that they do not form on your teeth.

Flossing

One of the most common places where cavities can form is in between your teeth, which is why flossing is very important to do on a daily basis. Everyone's teeth are different though, which is why it is important not to limit yourself to using traditional dental floss. You may be able to do a better job with a water flosser or a proxy brush, or you do not have the dexterity to wrap the floss between your teeth and would do a better job with a floss pick. Find the method that works best for you so that you can do a great job.

It will also help to brush your teeth, do not rinse your mouth, and then floss. As weird as it may seem, flossing it in this order will help get the fluoride in the toothpaste between your teeth, which will do a better job at preventing cavities.

Rinsing

It will help to incorporate a fluoride rinse before you go to bed. This is not just the typical mouth rinse that will help freshen your breath, but actually have ingredients that help fight off cavities. This is the type of mouthwash that you are supposed to use and let sit on your teeth for at least half an hour before eating or drinking anything. If you do it right before bed, it will be easy to avoid doing those things that cause the rinse to come off your teeth.

Drinking Water

Drinking water after snacks and meals is a great way to prevent cavities. That is because it will take some time for your saliva to naturally wash over your teeth and remove those sugars from the food that you eat. Drinking more water will help speed up that process, which will remove the sugars faster and prevent cavities from forming.

Visiting Your Dentist

It's important that you stay on top of visiting your dentist regularly so that you can get a checkup, cleaning, and x-rays. This is the best way to remove tartar from your teeth and see what is happening on the inside of your tooth. X-rays can often find signs of decay that cannot be seen with your eyes.
